PAYMENT PROCESS

How does the banking background process of online payment work?

After choosing the bank card payment method on the merchant/service provider's website, the customer initiates the payment, as a result of which he is transferred to the Bank's payment page equipped with a secure communication channel. To pay, you need to enter your card number, expiration date, and the 3-digit validation code found on the signature strip on the back of the card. You initiate the transaction, from then on the card undergoes real-time authorization, in the framework of which the originality, coverage, and purchase limit of the card data are checked. If all the data are suitable for the transaction to continue, the amount to be paid will be blocked on your card by the bank of the account holder (card issuer). The amount will be debited (deducted) from the account within a few days, depending on the bank holding the account.

How does internet card shopping differ from traditional shopping?

We distinguish between card present and card not present transactions. The Card Present transaction is carried out using a POS terminal device. After swiping the card and entering the PIN code, the terminal contacts the cardholder's bank via the authorization center and, depending on the type of card and the card issuer, via the VISA or MasterCard network. Validity and coverage checks (authorization) take place here. Going back through the former route, the POS terminal (or the merchant) receives the approval or rejection. The customer signs the receipt. Card not Present is a transaction during which the bank card is not physically present. This includes transactions conducted by letter, telephone or electronically (internet), in which case the customer (cardholder) initiates the transaction by entering the requested card data on a secure (256-bit encrypted) payment page. You will receive a so-called license number, which is the same as the number on the paper-based receipt.

What does reservation mean?

The transaction is immediately followed by a reservation (blocking) as soon as the bank becomes aware of it, since the official data must first be received for the actual debit, which takes a few days, during which time the purchased amount can be spent again. Therefore, with the reservation, the purchased or borrowed money is separated and placed under reservation. The reserved amount belongs to the account balance, i.e. it earns interest, but cannot be spent again. Booking ensures the rejection of transactions for which there is no longer coverage, even though the account balance would in principle still provide an opportunity for this.

FAILED PAYMENTS AND ACTIONS

In what case can a transaction fail?

Generally, a payment order not accepted by the bank that issued the card (that is, where the customer received the card); but in the case of using a bank card, this may also be due to the fact that the authorization request does not reach the card-issuing bank due to a telecommunications or IT error.

What to do if the payment procedure is unsuccessful?

In each case, a transaction identifier is generated for the transaction, which we recommend to record. If the transaction is rejected by the bank during the payment attempt, please contact your account manager bank.

Why should the account managing bank be contacted in the event of payment failure?

During the card verification, the account managing (card issuing) bank notifies the merchant (accepting) bank collecting the amount whether the transaction can be completed. The accepting bank cannot disclose confidential information to a customer of another bank, only the bank that identifies the cardholder has the right to do so.

What does it mean if I received an SMS from my bank about the reservation/blocking of the amount, but the merchant/service provider indicates that the payment was unsuccessful?

This phenomenon can occur if the card has been checked on the payment page, but you have not returned to the merchant/service provider's website. In this case, the transaction is considered incomplete and therefore automatically unsuccessful. In such a case, the amount will not be debited from your card, the reservation will be cancelled.
